About the Movement

About Demo-Public

We are a civic movement — a coalition of Americans who believe solutions matter more than ideology.

Our Mission

Demo-Public exists to demonstrate that Americans can work together across traditional political lines — not by abandoning their values, but by applying them honestly to the problems the country actually faces.

Our purpose is not merely to win elections, accumulate political power, or defeat an opposing side. Elections matter, but political power is a means to responsible self-government — not the purpose of the movement itself.

We believe the American Republic is worth preserving — and that preserving it requires citizens who are willing to put the country before their party, and solutions before their ideology.

Where We Are Today

Demo-Public is currently a civic movement working to build a national coalition of Americans committed to country before party, people before politics, and solutions before ideology.

We are developing our community, public platform, and organizational foundation before pursuing formal party-building, candidates, fundraising, or ballot access. This first phase is focused on listening, constructive dialogue, and determining whether Americans are ready for a different approach to politics.

How This Movement Began

The Demo-Public movement began with a simple observation: millions of Americans do not fit comfortably within a single political party, yet they are routinely asked to choose between complete ideological packages that may not reflect what they actually believe.

Demo-Public was created as an independent civic initiative to explore whether Americans can build common ground around constitutional principles, credible evidence, practical solutions, and mutual respect.

The movement is currently in its introductory and organizational stage. As it develops, additional information about its leadership, structure, policy process, and opportunities for public participation will be made available.

What is a Demo-Public?

A Demo-Public is someone who evaluates political questions independently rather than beginning with a party position. Instead of asking what Democrats or Republicans believe, a Demo-Public asks:

  • What does the Constitution permit?
  • What does credible evidence support?
  • What is practical and financially responsible?
  • What are the likely consequences and tradeoffs?
  • What best serves the long-term interests of the American people?

This is not automatic centrism. Demo-Publicism does not split the difference between the two parties or seek a midpoint between their positions. It ignores party positions entirely and follows the evidence and the Constitution wherever they lead.

Why the Demo-Public Movement Was Created

The Demo-Public movement was created in response to a political culture increasingly shaped by tribalism, ideological conformity, and performative politics. Modern partisan politics can create powerful incentives for conflict — as outrage can drive fundraising and engagement, while partisan loyalty can discourage independent judgment.

The result is a system that pressures Americans to adopt an entire partisan package rather than evaluate issues independently. Demo-Publicism is a response to that pressure — not an attack on Democratic or Republican voters, but a rejection of the institutional incentives that reward division over governance.

Building an American Coalition

Demo-Public seeks to build a durable coalition of Americans from different political traditions who share constitutional and civic principles and can work together without requiring complete ideological conformity.

The 80% Principle is a governing philosophy, not a mathematical membership test. It holds that substantial common ground exists among most Americans on the goals of governance — and that this shared ground is large enough to work from, while the remaining disagreements are debated honestly and respectfully.

What we are not.

Not automatic centrismWe don't split the difference between Democrats and Republicans. We examine problems independently.
Not a traditional third partyDemo-Public is first a governing philosophy and civic movement. Forming a political party is a possible future step, not a current status or a guaranteed outcome. Electoral participation may be one means of advancing these principles, but winning elections is not the movement's sole purpose.
Not a fundraising operationWe don't ask for donations. We ask for your thinking.
Not ideologically rigidWe follow evidence and principle, not party line. Our positions can and should evolve.
Not anti-Democrat or anti-RepublicanBoth traditions have contributed important ideas to American governance. We draw from both.

Core Values

Constitutional FidelityThe Constitution is the foundation of legitimate governance — to be amended through proper process and never circumvented for convenience.
Evidence-Based ThinkingPolicy should follow facts, credible evidence, and honest analysis — even when the conclusions are inconvenient.
Civic ResponsibilitySelf-governance requires active, informed, engaged citizens. The health of the Republic depends on the character of its people.
Respectful DisagreementAmericans who hold different views are not enemies. Good-faith debate is essential to democratic life.
Long-Term ThinkingSound governance weighs consequences and tradeoffs honestly — including costs, fiscal sustainability, and the interests of future generations.
Strong America, Independent JudgmentAmerican policy should protect national sovereignty, constitutional self-government, and the country's ability to make independent judgments — while maintaining constructive alliances and international cooperation.
Why We Exist

Returning Government to the People

Demo-Public was founded upon a simple conviction: America belongs to the American people.

Our government was never intended to belong to political parties, powerful donors, corporations, lobbyists, career politicians, government agencies, or any permanent political class. Political authority begins with the people, is temporarily entrusted to public officials, and must always remain accountable to the citizens it serves.

That is what it means to preserve government of the people, by the people, and for the people.

But restoring self-government requires more than electing different leaders. It requires citizens who remain informed, verify consequential information, participate, vote, reject political personality cults, and hold every political side—including their own—to the same ethical and constitutional standards.

Demo-Public exists to return ordinary Americans to the center of public life and restore government to its proper purpose: protecting constitutional rights, representing the public interest, expanding opportunity, administering public resources responsibly, and serving the common good.

Government belongs to the people. The Republic works only when the people work it.
